While earning my undergraduate degree in pre-veterinary medicine, with the intent of becoming a vet, I discovered a deep passion for the research lab, striving to answer questions that would help animals live better lives. This led me to earn my Masters Degree and conduct research in the Animal Science Department at the University of Arkansas
During this time, I begin training personal protection German Shepherds- a passion I've returned to off and on ever since. The breed became the absolute love of my life: powerful, intelligent, high-drive, energetic, and at times, a bit crazy. Training in the sport of Personal Protection taught me how to work WITH dogs as a team rather than trying to dominate them.
Years later, while staying home to raise our two daughters, becoming a professional dog trainer as a second career was a natural fit. Friends and neighbors begin ask me for help. Complete strangers would stop me also asking for help after seeing me out with my Shepherds. It was then that I realized how many people needed help finding harmony with their dogs.
I named my business Love Your K9 because so many owners were not in love with their dogs – they were downright miserable. I took what I learned from raising and training Shepherds and applied it to pet dogs, knowing that if I could get a high energy, jumping, biting, and pulling German Shepherd to be calm and well mannered, both at home and in public, I could help pet dogs do the same.
Over the last 15 years, I've helped over 900 owners achieve peace and calm with their dogs. I've learned that the key is to educate the owner as much as their dog. When they understand why their dog is behaving the way it is and learn the skills to handle the issues, they achieve clarity that improves everything. Dogs need us to comunicate with them in a way that they understand too. They aren't trying to annoy us, even though they do sometimes, they just don't understand our world. It's my job to help owners train and guide their dogs through the human world.
When you call us you're dealing with training issues with your dog that you don't know how to fix. Or maybe you have a new puppy or adult dog and you want to make sure you get them on the right track. It's our goal to help you fix those issues and get on that right track. We go the extra mile to ensure your success and we take that responsibility seriously. We strive to give you all the tools and information you need to achieve that success. We offer full support by phone and text between sessions and even after the training is done!
We have the experience to deal with virtually every type of dog training and behavior problem, but we're also honest enough tell you if something is out of our league and refer you to another trainer more suited to your needs. In other words, your success is more important than our egos.
